Alamo
came to the sanctuary after the people who were trying to rescue him could not perform and pay for the care he required.
This is a common situation. Many good samaritans take on a sick, underweight or injured horse and find themselves overwhelmed
by medical costs and the work needed to bring the animal back to health.
Alamo had foundered
with 13 degree and 16 degree rotation in his front coffin bones. In addition to the founder, the sole of one of his front
hooves was broken into four pieces. HIs hoof had to be cleaned and treated with medicine then rewrapped in bandages
and duct tape every day.
Alamo recovered and was placed with a loving family with his own little girl.
They developed a special bond and the family said that he was the best horse they had ever had. Unfortunately,
the economy took a downturn and they needed to sell their farm so Alamo has returned to the sanctuary this time with
a friend, a little Connemara pony named Strudel.
He was placed with another family in September of 2010 but life
struck once again and he is now back at the sanctuary along with Phoenix who was placed with the same family in 2008.
Alamo is a sweet, gentle gelding that is appropriate for children and low-level riders. He has nice gaits and has
never been known to kick, bite or buck. Alamo would like to have a nice home with another quiet, gentle horse whose
company he can enjoy.
