Granger when he first arrived at the sanctuary.

Granger is a 26-year-old Mustang gelding.  He came to the sanctuary in the summer of 2007.  Granger was the rescue project of a kind family that eventually called HPS for assistance when the father lost his job and could not bear the financial responsibility of a sick horse.

Granger arrived underweight, blind in his left eye, and with a weakness in his hindquarters.  We believe he has not been blind in his eye for very long because he is still adjusting to his impaired vision.  He has gained weight all his weight back plus some, and is no longer exhibiting any weakness in his limbs.

In the current photo he appears to be brownish/gray, we are interested to see what his coat will look like after he sheds out now that he has had proper nutrition.  Under his thick coarse forelock, he has a beautiful white forehead.

Granger wears a fly mask on sunny days and receives a few betacarotene vitamins in his feed to help protect his remaining eye.

Granger is about 14 hands tall and is very gentle.  He is occassionally ridden by one of the children that volunteers at the sanctuary and would make a nice child's horse.  He is easy to work with and has nice ground manners but it is important approach him carefully and not startle him on his blind side.
