Treasure was a Christmas gift for a young boy that wanted a horse.  His parents knew nothing about horses but wanted to make their child's wish come true.  They purchased a thin, blind mare very cheaply from a dealer thinking they could fatten her up in the weeks before Christmas.  The parents did not know anything about horses, especially starved ones, so the poor mare continued to lose weight.

A vet was called and unsurprisingly he determined that the mare had a heart murmur, which is typical with horses that have endured long-term extreme starvation, and needed dental work.  He also reported that the horse had glaucoma  and was 70% blind in her left eye.

Like many first time horse owners, the family found themselves over their head with expenses and responsibilities that come along with horse ownership.  The little boy received his Christmas gift and even rode his horse....once...before the family requested HPS to take the horse and help her.

She was too thin to determine what her breed was when she arrived.  She is now stronger and she has received dental care.  Treasure has returned to her proper weight and has joined our herd of mares.  Her special friend is Windstar the ex-hunter that she shared the front field with during rehabilitation.
