Vaquero is a lovely snowy white Peruvian Paso.  He came to the sanctuary after his owner contracted a lung disease  We are sad to say that Vaquero, himself, has melanomas on his sheath and genitalia.

This past July he took a turn for the worse and we were certain that he was in stage 4 cancer and were preparing to let him go.  We threw every natural remedy available at him.  One of the recent treatments, a mixture of aloe vera, honey and distilled alcohol, originated in Jerusalem and seems to be working.  Several large plum-sized tumors in his anus have been reduced to bean-sized nubs and we have not seen any new tumor growth.

Vaquero's treatment is expensive and he may face future challenges in regaining his health but we feel we owe it to him and other horses to try and find a cure for cancer.
