Jelly Bean's story begins in S.C.  For most of his life, this miniature horse stood alone in a grassy field sleeping on the freezing ground in the winter and baking in the sun in the winter.  Lack of care caused him to grow thin, he foundered several times and his hooves grew to 7-8 inches long.  Eventually his owner tired completely of him and called a vet to put him to sleep.

Jelly Bean was only 7 years old.

The vet refused to euthanize Jelly Bean and called a client in N.C. and asked her to take the little horse.  When the woman came to pick up Jelly Bean the next day, she discovered that his hooves had been hacked back and he was in such pain that he could barely stand let alone walk.  Carefully, he was lifted into a trailer and taken to safety and medical care.

Jelly Bean is on the long road to recovery.  He can be seen slipping under the fences to visit the other horses at the sanctuary.  He likes to greet them with little kisses and nips, and the other horses find him to be very charming.  Jelly Bean is feeling so much better that he can be found playing with the larger horses or the other mini, Cracker Jack or visiting his friend, Noble in the recovery field.
